Moshe Srulovitz

Member of “Hashomer Hatzair”

In October 1943, Moshe was drafted into forced labor, as part of the Hungarian army.

Together with members of the Zionist youth movement, he joined a joint desertion in October 1944.

Moshe arrived at the Glass House in Budapest and immediately joined the activities of the “Zionist Youth Movement Underground” there in distributing Swiss protection certificates (Schutzpas), which were prepared as part of the underground’s activities. His Aryan appearance and courage helped him in this dangerous activity. In the process, Moshe was captured by Hungarian collaborators, but escaped and continued to operate. In December 1944, a “branch” of the Glass House was opened on Wekerle Street, in order to relieve the terrible overcrowding in the Glass House. Moshe was among those who moved to Wekerle Street, and from there he continued his activities until the liberation by the Soviet army.

Moshe and his wife immigrated in October 1947 and joined Kibbutz Yad Mordechai. Moshe participated in the battles to defend Yad Mordechai. After the end of the War of Independence, he moved to Kibbutz Gan Shmuel and later to Kibbutz Galon.

In 1950, the family moved to Rehovot.
